Discover the nature of the Tikal National Park

There are a lot of 'special' animals who live in the Tikal region, we will give a short list of animals who live in the park.

Agouti
An agouti is a rodent that lives in Latin-America. They are big, thin rodents with long limbs and a rough pelage. They are related to guinea pigs and look quite similar.
It can grow to be 60 cm in length and weigh up to 4 kg.

Gray FoxGray fox
The Gray fox is a species of candid, that you can find in the Tikal region. It is an small animal, its length is 1 meter and it weighs up to 8 kg. The Gray fox is the only fox who can climb trees. The Gray fox is an animal who comes out at night, his diet includes small animals like rabbits, mouses birds and squirrels.

Spider Monkey
Spider Monkeys can be found in tropical forest from southern Mexico to Brazil. These New World monkeys are disproportionally long and have got spindly limbs.
These monkeys measure up to 89 centimetres and  weigh up to 6.5 kilograms.

Howler MonkeyHowler Monkeys
Howler Monkeys are among the largest of the New World monkeys. Howler Monkeys range in size from 56 to 92 cm.
They  are called howling monkeys because of the way they communicate, vocal animal communication is an important part of their social behaviour.
There is only one creature in the world louder than the Howler Monkey and that is the Blue Whale.

Harpy Eagles
The harpy eagle is the largest and the most powerful eagle in the Americas. You can spot this eagle in Tikal.
The Harpy eagle is an actively hunting carnivore. His main prey are mammals such as monkeys, coatis and sloths.
Harpy eagles measure up to 110 centimetres with a wingspan of 2 meters. They weigh over 7.5 kilograms.

Falcons
A Falcon is a raptor. Because of their tapered wings, they are enabled to fly at high speed an to change direction rapidly. This makes them excellent raptors.

Ocellated Turkey
The Ocellated Turkey is a large bird, that is around a meter long and weighing up to 5 kg. These animals are special because of their body feathers with their bronze and green iridescent colour. Although the turkeys have the ability to fly, they prefer running.
