There are a lot of 'special' animals who live in The Great smoky mountains, we will give a short list of animals who live in the park.
The Elk
The Elk is the second largest species of deer in Northern America and in the World, only the moose is bigger. An Elk can weigh up to 600 kilograms. Apart from finding these animals in Jasper, you can also find these animals in East Asia. Their diet consists of grasses, plants, bark and leaves, they consume between 4.5 and 7 kg each day.
The Mountain goat
The mountain goat, also known as the rocky mountain goat is a mammal that can be found in the northern parts of America. This mammal is not a real goat, although there are lots of similarities. These animals can be very competitive and protective of their space and food services, this can make them very aggressive. Their diet consists of grasses, sedges, herbs and mosses.
Black Bear
The black bear is the most common bear species in North America, by current estimates more than 800.000 black bears are living in the American continent. The black bear is present in all of the Canadian provinces except Prince Edward Islands. A Mature Black bear measures up to 180 cm and weighs up to 180 kg, this is an average because exceptionally large black bears can measure up to 250 cm and weigh up to 370 kg.
Bighorn sheep
A Bighorn sheep is a mountain sheep in North America, you can find these animals in the rocky mountains. These animals are recognisable because of their Big horns, hints the name. They can weigh up to 135 kg and their horns alone weigh around the 14 kg. Most of their time they graze on grasses .
Owls
There are a lot of different kinds of owls in the Rocky Mountains. These birds of prey only hunt when it is dark outside. They mostly hunt small mammals, insects and often other kinds of birds.
