There are a lot of 'special' animals who live in Mount Cook National Park, we will give a short list of animals who live in the park.
The Kiwi
The Kiwi is a small flightless bird endemic to New Zealand. This animal is the National symbol of New Zealand. The Kiwi is a small bird that can grow up to 45 cm.
The Kea
A Kea is a mountain parrot, this animal can be recognised by its beautifully coloured feathers. The bird is not afraid of Humans and has a life expectancy of 50 years.
Bats
There are a lot of Bats in the area around Mt. Cook. The Bat is actually the only native land mammal of New Zealand, all the other mammals are imported. There are three kinds of bats in New Zealand. The Long tailed Bat, The other two species are both Short-tailed Bats. The Long-tailed Bats are the most common bats in New Zealand.
Red Deer
In New Zealand you can find a lot of Red Deer. This animal was introduced to New Zealand in 1851, since then 7 other species of deer were introduced but none are as widespread as the Red Deer. The Red Deer can be recognised by its big antlers.
