
The Masai Mara National Reserve is a park in the South East of Kenya. This is actually not a National Park but a National Reserve.
This means that the reserve belongs tot the Masai people and the park is administered by the local county council.
The Masai Mara National Reserve is each year visited by thousands of tourists and is considered to be one of the most popular parks in Africa. The park is especially famous for the migration of 1.5 million wildebeest.
The Masai Mara is one of the parks where you can spot the famous Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. Especially the Lion is common in these region, other animals that can be spotted are cheetahs, jackals, giraffes, hippos and not to forget the rich birdlife.
It is only possible to enter the park by car, it is absolutely prohibited to enter the park on foot outside the campsite or lodges, because of the wild animals. The best way to get around is a 4 wheel drive safari vehicle.
