
The Komodo National park was originally founded to protect the Komodo Dragon and its habitat, later it was decided that it would be dedicated in order to the conservation of the flora and fauna in general.
The Park is located in Indonesia, in the area of the Lesser Sunda Islands.
There are 3 large islands that can be found in the National Park, Komodo, Rinca and Padar.
You can also find numerous small islands in Komodo National Park, all these islands are of volcanic nature. The total surface area is 1817 km², 67 procent consist of water and 33 procent is land.
The Komodo is home to a lot of animals, but the most notable animal is the Komodo Dragon,. This reptile is the among the worlds largest reptiles and can reach 3 meters or more in length an weigh up to 70 kg.
There are 4000 inhabitants of the national park who live inside the park.
