There are a lot of 'special' animals who live on the Galapagos islands, we will give a short list of animals who live in the park.
The Sea Lion
A sea lion is a marine mammal that can be characterised by their long flippers and their ability to walk on them. These animals have amazing abilities in water. Their speed and agility in the water is a big contrast with their clumsiness on land. You can find these animals in the Galapagos island.
Frigate birds
Frigate birds are large longed winged birds. The males stand out because of their inflatable red-coloured throat pouches. They inflate their pouches to impress and attract females during mating season. These birds are mostly found in tropical places, as well in the Galapagos islands.
Tortoise
In the Galapagos islands you can find the biggest tortoise in the world. Adults of these species can weigh over 300 kilograms and measure up to 1.2 meters. Their life expectancy is estimated to be around the 200 years. Tortoises are herbivorous animals mostly eating grasses, vines and fruit.
Tropical birds
You can find a whole lot of tropical birds in the Galapagos islands. Many of the tourist come to spot the exotic birds. On these islands you can find these birds: frigate birds, red and white boobies, Galapagos hawk, brown pelican and much much more.
Marine iguana
A marine iguana is a iguana that lives and forage under water, other than a 'normal' iguana that lives on land. You can find these animals mainly on the rocky shores of the Galapagos islands. These cold-blooded animals can grow up to 1.3 meters in length and weigh up to 1.5 kg.
Dolphins
Dolphins are aquatic mammals who are closely related to the whales and porpoises, a dolphin can vary in size from 1.2 meters to 10 meters. Dolphins can be found worldwide in all the seas, their diet consists out of fish and squid.
