About the park
In the pacific ocean, 1000 kilometres west of Ecuador you can find the Galapagos islands. The group of islands consists of 19 islands and 107 rocks and islets. The islands are located on a hot spot, a spot that creates volcanoes.
The Galapagos islands are actually a province of Ecuador, a real beauty of a province of which 96% of the land are included in the National park.
The youngest island in the Galapagos, Fernandina and Isabella are still being formed with the most recent volcanic eruption in 2005.
